Books For India is one of the major sources of funding for Glad Tidings India, the American partner of India Bible Literature (IBL).  It has grown out of a hunger on the part of Indian pastors and church leaders for Christian books for their own study, and Bibles and hymnals for their parishioners.  In response, IBL organized great Book Fairs, selling the used Bibles and books which came their way.  The demand was so great, that some volunteers found ways to assemble enough books to be shipped in great container loads.  It may sound surprising, but careful planning by Dr. Bill Scott and his teams in India and in the US and Ireland found a way to meet that demand and generate income for the other ministries of IBL at the same time!  In his book on this ministry, Rev. Donald Barnhouse said he has never met a man who can do a tenth as much with a dollar as Dr. Bill Scott!

We have arrangements for shipping all these books to India in huge containers, at a net cost which is modest enough to make the sale of your donated books practical, at the great Book Fairs where pastors come to get the books they need at bargain prices.

Best of all, the entire operation is so leveraged that every dollar of profit accomplishes great things through the ministries of IBL and Glad Tidings India.  

If the books and Bibles you send bring in $25, that will print 8 Bibles in one of the 18 major languages of India, and put a woman through a ten month Jesus-based literacy training course that will deliver her from the near slavery of agricultural field work, or of prostitution and the AIDS that so often goes with it.  In either case, literacy almost instantly doubles her income, and may well prevent her daughters being forced into child marriage.  

If the library you donate brings in $750, that will put an entire class of 30 women through a ten month Jesus-based literacy program.  Furthermore, that includes the cost of giving them each a Bible for their graduation!  What's more, out of these classes an average of eight to ten women put their faith in the Lord Jesus they have been reading and studying about in the literacy primers for months.  A a prayer cell is started which very often develops into a church as their husbands and children often are converted by the change in the lives of the women, who often go on to teach other women in their village to read.  In short, it is practically certain that every donated library will start a church of new believers in India!

We take Bibles and Christian books, new or used, many of which are now commonly thrown away, and put them to work bringing light into the darkness of India.

Now that you have a computer and Google, you have probably not touched your old encyclopedia set in years, and nobody here wants to buy it.  But in India it can help a Christian school get accredited, and IBL partners with many such schools, schools where quality education brings thousands of children from Hindu and Moslem families to learn about Jesus and hear the message of the Bible.  The parents don't mind, because the quality of the education is what matters to them.
